DIMMU BORGIR Splits With Keyboardist MUSTIS, Bassist/Vocalist VORTEX
August 30, 2009Mustis (keyboards; real name: Øyvind Mustaparta) and ICS Vortex (clean vocals, bass; real name: Simen Hestnæs) are no longer members of the Norwegian symphonic black metal band DIMMU BORGIR, according to a posting on Mustis' MySpace page. Both Mustis and Vortex were apparently either fired or had no other choice than to leave the group after years of disagreements. No further details are currently available, but it should be rather telling that Mustis has set the "mood indicator" on his MySpace page to "betrayed." (NOTE: Since this story was first published, Mustis has changed his "mood indicator" setting to "creative.")
An official statement on the matter from DIMMU BORGIR is expected to be released shortly.
Last year's "Blackest Of The Black" tour with DANZIG helped support DIMMU's latest DVD titled "The Invaluable Darkness", which debuted at No. 5 on the Top Music Videos chart in mid-October. It was also the band's last North American tour promoting their eighth studio album, "In Sorte Diaboli", which debuted on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart at No. 2, and on The Billboard 200 chart at No. 43.
